Alexis and Christian are on their thrid date, and have just enjoyed a tasty meal at a popular new Japanese restaurant. The date was going well until the bill for their dinner arrived at the table. Who should pay, and why?
Alexis: That was a really wonderful meal. Thank you so much, Christian.
Christian: Yeah, I enjoyed it too. The bill is 58 bucks. Shall we split it down the middle so we don't have to figure out who ate what?
Alexis: Oh. I guess we could do that. Sure. If that's the way you want to be.
Christian: What do you mean, "if that's the way I want to be"? How else would we divvy it up?
Alexis: Actually, I thought you were taking me out on a date, which would mean that you would be treating me this time. It just seems somewhat more romantic that way.
Christian: Isn't that kind of old-fashioned? I mean, we both have jobs, so what's the hassle with going fifty-fifty?
Alexis: A girl likes to feel like she's being taken care of sometimes-that's all. I was just hoping that this would be one of those times.
Christian: But we've always shared the cost the other times we've been out together. What's different about tonight?
Alexis: Well, this is our first dinner in a proper restaurant, so I thought you'd at least offer to pick up the tab.
Chrisian: Well, if I offer now, it won't seem like it was my idea. Will I still get any brownie points?
Alexis: It's worth a try.
